This above is a picture of University Square in the center of Bucharest. It has a sign in it saying “Bucharest 0Km’s” it’s the center, another sign is a stone cross with the words ” Revolution 1989″ written on it. To commemorate the people who died in the square the day Nicolae Ceauşescu finally tried to flee, only to be executed on Christmas day.
Bucharest is an amazing city. It is a city in change- still making its history and creating for itself a new past. Its population is 2.6 million and is the 6th largest city in the EU. The airport can be reached in 15 minutes in good traffic and most of the interesting things to see and experience are all within a short walk of the apartment you will be staying in when you come on our Bucharest and Maramures Tour.
When you arrive we suggest you explore the area known as Lipscani the old city in Bucharest shown above. It is the new up-and-coming cafe society of Bucharest still revealing the old world before ’89. For details on how to get to Bucharest have a look at the flights to Bucharest page and we’ll see you when you arrive in Maramures after you get the overnight train to Sighetu.
