The weather in April in Romania can be sunny days and the dirt tracks can be dried out and you can be walking around the village of breb in is T shirt. Or it can still be covered in snow. It’s unlucky to have snow in the village still in April, but the ski resort of cavnic is normal still open in April. It was in 2010. Weather in Maramures in April as I mention above, can be a like a beautiful spring day or still be chilly. In general the weather in the village of Breb in April is very pleasant allowing you to walk freely across the mountains at a low altitude and up to the snow line at the top without getting to hot like it is in the summer. if you stay in one of our cabanas that are up from the village on the Gutai Mountain you will get spectacular views down the valley as there will be not heat haze giving you the clearest views at any time of the year.
Average temperature during April in Maramures is 13 degrees during the day but it can be as high as 20 degrees and T shirt weather and 5 degrees at night so still chilly at night requiring the wood burner to be lit after around 4.00pm in the afternoon. . Easter is a huge event in the village of Breb and well worth experiencing. It’s like christmas all over again. There are also other events on in the local area in April Udătoriul – Şurdeşti: Old agrarian ritual, celebrating the most hardworking man of the village, whose selection is strict: he, together with other hardworking people, is observed for a long time by a jury of old men before being elected. Câte flori pe Iza-n sus (All the flowers up on Iza Valley) – Dragomireşti: Folk festival on the first Sunday after Easter, with folk dances, songs and costumes.

Weather in Maramures in January
Maramures is situated in Northern Romania and so is the coldest region in the winter, with snow falling from December and lasting into early April. In the village of Breb where our villas are, there is typically a metre of snow in January. The normal mode of transport is a one-horse open sleigh! In the last few years there have been periods were there has been not snow for some weeks in January in the village which is at an latitude of 600m above sea level. Activities in Maramures in April
Winter is finally over and the clearing and ploughing is coming to end. Planting and preparing the kitchen gardens for growing beans, corn, onions and all the ingredients for traditional maramures food are prepared. and of course for Easter. The hills are alive with people finishing the clearing of their lands and trimming their hedges. If you come to stay in Breb in April, the main event is Easter.
The build up to easter is a great time to see the locals busying themselves with cleaning and cooking and preparing for visitors to their house. Easter is a big as Christmas in Maramures.
Gardening- the men are out on the land up in the hills and the women are getting the kitchen gardens ready for plating.
Easter – Have a look at the set op pictures I took in 2012 showing the Easter weekend from the last market day to after the feast on Easter Sunday. Every house kills a lamb and a feast is made with bread, cakes and as much Hornica s you can drink to wash it all down. If your a photographer or your traveling with children and you want to show them a traditional Orthodox easter, then Breb is a great place to be over the easter weekend. Easter is often not at the same time as it is in the Uk so check here for dates to plan ahead.
Skiing – in the last few years the kids have still managed to get a few days of skiing in April in Cavinc but I do not recommend you come to Breb for skiing in April unless your booking last minute and you can check the forecasts for snow for the next week.
Events in Maramures in April

13 April – Palm Sunday: Christians bring green willow branches in the church yards to have them blessed by priests; the branches will be then taken home and kept in a on the girder, where everyone can see them all year long.
20 April – Easter Customs: After a long fasting period, the people of Maramureş celebrate Easter with piety: painting eggs, going to the Resurrection Service, having their food blessed by the priest are some of the unforgotten customs.
21 April – ″Udătoriu″ from Şurdeşti: On the second day of Easter, the hardest working villager (named the “Udătoriu”) is celebrated. This is an old spring agrarian custom. Info: Mr. Gavril Costin, Tel: +40 262 298 530
22 April – Dance on Cosău – Sârbi: A village that preserved its wooden houses, gates, traditional installations and its artisans, also preserved the custom of dancing on holidays. Info: the Mayor’s office of Budeşti, Tel:+40 0262 373 669
23 April – Saint George’s Day: In some villages, locals decorate their houses with birch leaves. In the morning of St George’s Day (also called Sângeorz), people wash their faces with dew. The main old custom on Saint George’s Day is the “wetting” one: boys throw buquets of waters on girls, as a ritual of fertility.
26 April– ″Câte flori peIza-n sus″ (Many Flowers up the Iza River) Folk Festival – Dragomireşti: The church of Dragomireşti is celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter; after the church service, the entire town hums with the sounds of traditional dance and music. Weather in Cluj Napoca in January
Weather in Cluj Napoca in April can be very nice. The grass is turning green again and every one is out in the fields getting ready for this years crops. As your drive from Cluj Airport to our village in Breb, you will see all the peasant out working in the fields and on their way back as we climb the Carpathian mountains and down in to Maramures.
Average temperature in April in Cluj Napoca is 13 degrees in the day and a low of 4 degrees at night. If it’s sunny which it often is in Cluj, it will be T shirt weather and every nice.
Weather in Bucharest in January
Weather in Bucharest in April can start to bring the girls summer fashions out on to the streets for the first time, even it is still a bit chilly. It can be very warm in April in Bucharest making the cafe society come alive on the cobbled streets of the old city.

Clothes recommended for January in Romania
Cloths recommended for April in Romania – check with us first before you fly as it can me warm and sunny in April requiring summer cloths, but it’s still worth packing a fleece and or a waterproof coat. if your coming out for Easter, pack some smart clothes as you will probably be invited to lunch at one of the locals house and will be expected to be very smart.
